The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) has successfully concluded its 2024 General Assembly under the theme “Together we are better” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). The Assembly, chaired by The SSCC Chairperson, Rt. Rev. Moderator Thomas Tut Puot of the Presbyterian Evangelical Church of South Sudan brought together delegates from SSCC member churches, the Board of Trustees, and international partners, including the World Council of Churches (WCC), the All-Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa (FECCLAHA). Delegates deliberated on key issues such as governance, asset management, legal matters, adoption of the amended SSCC Constitution, and the election of a new General Secretary.
The Assembly resolved to champion peace and reconciliation in South Sudan through strengthened partnerships with member churches and stakeholders. It also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of SSCC’s assets and finances, calling for strict oversight by the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. , the Assembly resolved to establish clear policies and take proactive measures. It underscored the Council’s commitment to promoting integrity and prophetic ministry, reaffirming SSCC’s role as a strong advocate for justice, unity, and reconciliation in South Sudan.
Expanding its membership, the Assembly officially welcomed the Sudanese Reformed Church, Christian Brotherhood Church, and Coptic Orthodox Church as full members of the SSCC. This General Assembly marked a significant milestone in unifying the vision of the SSCC and strengthening its capacity to contribute to peacebuilding and national cohesion.
