World Interfaith Harmony Week 1–7 February
World Interfaith Harmony Week, observed annually from 1–7 February, was established by the United Nations in 2010 at the proposal of H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan. The initiative promotes dialogue and cooperation among faith communities based on shared moral foundations, particularly the love of God and the love of neighbour, while respecting theological distinctiveness.
Rooted in the principles of The Common Word initiative, the observance encourages collaboration among people of faith and goodwill to strengthen peace, mutual understanding, and social cohesion.
In South Sudan, World Interfaith Harmony Week provides an important platform for the South Sudan Council of Churches and the Islamic Council to reaffirm their shared commitment to peaceful coexistence, national unity, and interreligious cooperation. By working together, both councils demonstrate that common values, respect, compassion, justice, and love of neighbour, remain stronger than divisions, and are essential to sustaining peace and stability in the nation.
